LANESBORO, MN -- The funeral for Maxine H. Kuehnast, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro. Mrs. Kuehnast died in St. Mark's Lutheran Nursing Home on Friday (Jan. 20, 2006). Maxine Blesie was born April 27, 1916, in Renwick Iowa. She graduated from Renwick public school as valedictorian at age 16. She attended two summer sessions of Cedar Falls Teachers College and taught in country school. She married Floyd Kuehnast, a local farmer, in Beaver Township, Humboldt County on Aug. 24, 1940. Married women were not allowed to teach. The couple farmed in Minnesota. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, music and travel. She won many awards at the Fillmore County Fair for her flowers and canned goods. She was an officer of the Peterson Garden Club and Bethlehem's WELCA. sang in the choir and was a teacher's aid for the Special Education program for Lanesboro Schools.

Surviving are five children, Annette (Richard) Kiehne of Austin, Donavon (Lois) of Northfield, Linda (James) Iverson of Zumbrota, Doug (Donna) of Willmar, and Julie (Dale) Magee of Bloomington, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, two brothers and a great-grandson. Friends may call at the church one hour before the service. Johnson Riley Funeral Home, Lanesboro, is in charge of arrangements.
