Whittemore, IAArthur John Zatloukal was born November 24, 1919, at Pocahontas, Iowa to John and Viktoria (Mahdal) Zatloukal. Art graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1937, and was married to Agnes Schuller on August 19, 1940, in Pocahontas. Art worked in Mallard before serving his country in the Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands. He was discharged in 1945. He returned to Mallard where he worked for an egg hatchery. The couple moved to Laurens where Art worked as an egg inspector. On November 1, 1954, Agnes died. Art later purchased a produce company in Eagle Grove and worked there until working with Sadler Construction Company there. Art retired at the age of 55 due to a disability. He lived in Whittemore and later became a resident of the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City in August, 2006, and died there on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at the age of 87.
Art enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, playing golf and working in his garden. Art was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his children, Richard of Ventura, Iowa, Jerald and wife Janice of Sioux City, Iowa, Dona and husband Gene Rohrer of Mason City, Iowa and Daniel and wife Whitney of Webster City, Iowa as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Agnes, one sister Agnes, one brother Jerry, a daughter Kathryn and son Patrick.
