LuVerne, IA 50560Donald Everett Thomas was born July 23, 1917, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Bert and Daisy Long Thomas. As a young child they lived in Rippey, Iowa, before moving to LuVerne, Iowa, where he attended school. After his schooling he went to work for the railroad. Donald served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Upon being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to LuVerne and his work on the railroad. Donald was married to Laura Hansen, they were later divorced. On December 8, 1962, Donald was united in marriage to Arlene Jensen in Goldfield, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in LuVerne. Donald retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railraod in 1977, after 44 years of service. He loved being outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening.
Donald died Sunday, October 2, 2005, at his home in LuVerne, Iowa. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his children, Randy and Pat Thomas of LuVerne, Iowa; Rebecca Thomas of Omaha, Nebraska; Orville Thomas of Rolfe, Iowa; Diane and Nick Laubenthal of Linn Grove, Iowa; Reverend Susan Thomas of Mount Ayr, Iowa; step-daughters, Anna Marie Harms of Waukee, Iowa; Donna and Jim McGrean of Johnston, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Richard and Annie Thomas of St. Paul, Minnesota; Gary and Joyce Thomas of Park City, Montana; very special caring sister, Beverly Hewitt of LuVerne, Iowa; Arlene and Bob Johnson of St. Paul, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Ricky Thomas; grandson, Lynn Thomas and six brothers and sisters.
