Bernette Ann Wilkinson was born on November 26, 1910, at Oak Hill, Illinois to Peter and Frances (Vogel) Kelch. Bernette graduated from Corwith High School in 1928. She worked for 10 years in Algona for Dr. C.H. Cretzmeyer. Bernette was married to Orville Wilkinson on April 18, 1938. The couple lived in California and Tennessee while Orville served in the military. They also lived in Minneapolis. Bernette worked as a waitress for many years. In 1972, the couple moved to Eagle Grove and Orville died in 1986. Bernette continued to live there until her health failed and she began a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center. She died there on Sunday morning September 28, 2003, at the age of 92.

Survivors include her sister Mary Reed and husband Wallace of Marshalltown, Iowa, sister-in-law Alice Kelch of Corwith, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Bernette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orville, three sisters Hilda Schaub, Katherine Kelch and Thelma Kelch and three brothers Arthur Kelch, Hugo Kelch and Sylvester Kelch.
