Dorothy M. Bohlen, 96, church choir director

EDISON, NJ -- Dorothy M. Bohlen of Edison died Tuesday (May 22, 2007) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. She was 96 years old. Mrs. Bohlen was born in Renwick, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1911, and relocated to New Jersey in 1943. Mrs. Bohlen was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College, earning a degree in music education, and taught and performed in the music field throughout her life. She was a former choir director of the youth and senior choirs at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Plainfield.

Mrs. Bohlen was predeceased by her husband, Walter W. Bohlen, and her son, Stephen. She is survived by her son, Bruce, of Fanwood; her daughter, Judith, of Lenoir, N.C.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 630 E. Front St., Plainfield. The family will welcome friends at the church after the service. Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood is in charge of arrangements.
