Elizabeth B. “Betty” Henderson Wolfe, 98, of Conrad, Iowa, formerly of Safford, Arizona entered into eternal life Sunday, July 27, 2008, at the Oakview Care Center in Conrad. A memorial graveside service and burial will be held at a later date at the Union Grove Cemetery in rural Gladbrook, Iowa. Cremation rites preceded the service at the Pursel-Davis Crematory, and no public visitation is planned. A memorial fund is being established. The Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, is caring for Betty and her family.

Elizabeth was born July 26, 1910, in Ottawa, Ill., to Oliver and Artibel (Dutton) Henderson. She grew to womanhood in several areas of Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in Iowa Falls. She graduated from Thompson’s School of Beauty in Des Moines and opened her own parlor, called Elizabeth’s, in Clarion, Iowa.

On Nov. 9, 1940, she married Chester “Chet” Wolfe in Britt, Iowa, and to this union two children were born, Steven and Susan. Betty was always supportive of her children’s activities as a Brownies and Girl Scouts leader, a Cub Scouts den mother and being active in the PTA. After the children left home, Chet and Betty enjoyed hunting, camping, rockhounding and fishing. After Chet retired in 1978, they moved to Safford, joined the Methodist Church and had a close circle of friends in their camping group known as the Airstreamers. Betty also joined art classes at the senior center and won awards for her paintings and jewelry making. Following Chet’s death in 2002, Betty moved to Oklahoma City, Okla., to be near her son. She moved to assisted-living apartments in Conrad in 2003, and her health forced her to the care center.

She will be missed by her son, Steven (Loan) Wolfe of Midwest City, Okla.; her daughter, Susan (Don) Storjohann of Garwin; five grandchildren: Scot (Marcia) Storjohann of Ankeny, Jeffrey (Sherry) Storjohann of Carroll, Iowa, Kendra (David) Winkowitsch of Purcell, Okla., Dr. Lee Wolfe of Colorado Springs, Colo., Major Chester (Penny) Wolfe of Papillion, Neb.; 10 great-grandchildren: Megan and Rachel Storjohann, Amber and Kyle Hedges, Gavin, Madison, Abagail and Cameron Wolfe, and Alyssa and Hunter Wolfe; a brother-in-law, Dale (Charlotte) Wolfe; a sister-in-law, Maxine Karlberg; and a host of much-loved nieces and nephews. In eternal life, Elizabeth joins her parents; her husband, Chester; and her brother, Richard (Jeanette) Henderson.
