June, 1918Mrs. Pinkham At Rest
The community was saddened Sunday morning when it was learned that Mrs.Maranda Pinkham has passed to her reward. Mrs. Pinkham had been very low for several weeks and for ten days preceding her death had been expected to pass away at almost any time. Mrs. Pinkham suffered a great deal during her last illness but even in her suffering her thoughts were always of others and not of herself. Everything that loving hands could do for her was done to ease her suffering and through it all she calmly awaited her summons. Two sons, two daughters and one sister were with her almost continually throughout her last days and were all with her when she passed away.
Mrs. Pinkham was one of Wright County's pioneers having come to Goldfield in the early '70's. She was loved by all who knew her, was a splendid neighbor and a kind and loving mother. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and the family fully realize they have lost a real mother. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the home, Rev. Nicholson, her next door neighbor and pastor of the Baptist church, being in charge. A large number of her friends were in attendance and many more were prevented from coming by the threatening weather. Interment was made in the beautiful Glenwood Cemetery.
Maranda Abigail Oviatt was born Dec. 19, 1837, in Medina County, Ohio and died June 2, 1918 at her home in Goldfield, aged 80 years, 5 mos., and 14 days. Pinkham, Mrs. Ellen Overbaugh and Henry Pinkham of Goldfield, Mrs. Abbie Mason of New Plymouth, Idaho, and Royal Pinkham. She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. S. DeVoe and Mrs. Geo. Taylor of Argyle, Wis., Mrs. Wm. Walker of Ringwood, Ill., and Mrs.Chas. Wescott of Red Wing, Minn. Three of her children, Sherman Pinkham, Mrs. Edith McCallum and James Wilson Pinkham, with her husband went on before. Besides the relatives above named she leaves to mourn her departure 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
