REEDSPORT, Oregon - The funeral will be Feb. 16, 2002 for Dale W. Toppings of Reedsport, who died Feb. 12 of age-related causes. He was 80. Toppings was born May 31, 1921, in Clarion, Iowa, to William and Edna Raynor Toppings. He married Colleen Butler in Reedsport on May 26, 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Toppings fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked as a log truck driver and enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Betty Sather of Eugene and Wanette Vosburg of Veneta; a brother, Dean of Ash Valley; two sisters, Beverly Tucker of Scottsburg and Laurie Coates of Ash Valley; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eilleen Binning died in 1999.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 15, at Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport. Saturday's service will be at 10 a.m., also at the chapel. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Scottsburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lower Umpqua Hospice.
