JUNCTION CITY, Oregon - A memorial service will be held Nov. 24 for Walter R. Johnson of Junction City, who died Nov. 19, 2003 of age-related causes. He was 81.

Johnson was born July 20, 1922, in Rowan, Iowa, to Clarence and Hazel Hearn Johnson. He married Hazel McBride in Lehigh, Iowa, on July 14, 1946. They later divorced. He moved to Eugene from Iowa in 1947 and settled in Junction City in 1986. He worked as a carpenter and built homes and commercial buildings in the Lane County area. He enjoyed playing pool. He was a member of the Junction City Moose Lodge since 1986.

Survivors include three daughters, Diana Pierce of Elmira, Sue Preston of Junction City and Jerry Johnson of Harrisburg; six sons, Bruce of Springfield, Wayne of Eugene, Clyde and James, both of Elmira, Parry of Florence and Clarence of Harrisburg; a brother, Russell of Crooked River Ranch; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A son, Robert, died previously.

Monday's service will be held at 4 p.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene. Private inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Eugene. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels.
