Last Rites For Mrs. Susan O'Neill Torpey Tuesday, Jan. 22

Last rites for Mrs. Susan O'Neill Torpey, who died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 19, at the home of her brother, Hugh O'Neill, after a lingering illness, were held at St. John's Catholic Church at Clarion at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, Jan. 22, with the Rev. Leo L. Logan officiating. Special music was furnished by Stephen Mariga, Mrs. Albert Bierl, and Mrs. T.J. Whitty, accompanied by Sister DeRouse of St. John's church. Pallbearers were Raymond Deimerly, John Deimerly, James Deimerly, Paul Mraz, Donald Hocraffer, all of Clarion, and Maurice O'Neill of Council Bluffs.

She is survived by her husband, John Torpey; four sisters, Miss Mary O'Neill, Miss Rose O'Neill, Mrs. Anna Deimerly, all of Clarion and Mrs. Brigit Hocraffer of Mason City; and two brothers, Frank and Hugh O'Neill of Clarion.

Burial was at St. John's cemetery and the Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Susan O'Neill was born July 25, 1876, to John and Mary O'Neill of Clarion. She graduated from the Clarion public schools and attended St. Joseph's school of nursing at Waverly from September 9, 1911, to Jun 2, 1914, when she was graduated as a registered nurse. She practiced her profession of nursing until her marriage September 9, 1914, to John J. Torpey of Waterloo. They resided at Waterloo until March 25, 1923, when they took up farming at Clarion. They remained there until March, 1943, and then moved to the town of Clarion. Susan Torpey was a life long member of St. John's Catholic church.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. J. B. O'Neill of St. Louis, Mo., Maurice O'Neill of Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Alvan Berding of Osage, T.E. McHale of Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Burma of Allison, and Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Chambers of Fort Dodge.
