MESERVEY - Clarence Stadtlander, 74, passed away Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) in rural Franklin County. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church in Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will take place in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.

Clarence, the son of Bert and Kate Meinders Stadtlander, was born Aug. 30, 1925, near Sheffield. He grew up in the Meservey area where he attended Meservey schools. Clarence was united in marriage to Irene Ostendorf on Sept. 2, 1943, at the Meservey church parsonage. The couple made their home and farmed in the countryside surrounding Meservey for over 40 years. In 1989 they moved into Meservey. Clarence enjoyed traveling and fishing, but only went hunting only once. A farmer his entire life, he most enjoyed the spring and fall seasons. Clarence is a past member of the Meservey School Board and served on the Meservey/Klemme Coop board. He was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey, where he served in many capacities including Deacon and Consistory.

Clarence is survived by two daughters, Darlene Pals and her husband, Larry, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Linda Opstad and her husband, Neil, of Albert Lea, Minn.; two sons, Mark and his wife, Cyndy, of Des Moines and Bruce and his wife, Judy, of Meservey; 12 grandchildren, Michele and her husband, Derrick, Kristine and her husband, Marcus, Angi and her husband, Matt, Paul, Scott, Karissa, Danika, Styles, Kyra, Kayrene, Witnee and Westley; one great-grandchild, Talin; three step-grandchildren, Marit and her husband, Tom, Charley and his wife, Amy, and Phillip; and two sisters, Fandalene Van Horn and her husband, John, of Sheffield and Caroline Schmidt of Belmond. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene in 1993; a grandchild, Libbie; one sister, Irene; and one brother, Harvey. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.
