4 August 2008Marilyn Ubben, 80, Williams, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Funeral services are10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vernon Lutheran Church rural Dows with burial in the Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 -7 p.m. Monday at Surls Funeral Chapel in Williams.
Marilyn Fern Schutt Ubben was born on Feb. 7, 1928 on a farm near Williams, Iowa in Hamilton County, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Heiden) Schutt. She attended the Williams #4 country school through 8th grade, the Williams High School and graduated from the Clarion High School in 1946. Marilyn then attended Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls and Wartburg College in Waverly. Marilyn taught country schools and also the 4th grade in the Williams Elementary School. On Dec. 20, 1952, Marilyn married Melvin Ubben at the Vernon Lutheran Church. In 1958 a daughter, Margaret was born. Margaret was Marilyn's shinning star. Marilyn enjoyed her role as a farmer's wife, her beautiful yard and flowers, writing letters to many friends and relatives and most of all, making 150 quilts for Missions last year. She will be missed by many.
Marilyn is survived by her two brothers, Fred (Mary) Schutt and Tom (Pam) Schutt both of Williams; a sister, Sharon (Ron) Brandt of Ackley; sisters-in-law, Norma Schutt of Jefferson and Sally Schutt of Alden; a brother-in-law, Henry Huisinga of Clarion; a son-in-law, Tom Dannen of Leon; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in Sept. 1991; daughter, Margaret in August of 2004; her parents; a sister, Anna Huisinga; two brothers, John and William Schutt; and two nephews, Gregory and Jonathan Schutt.
