GOLDFIELD - Gloria B. Harvey, the daughter of Vern and Edith (Gaulke) Richards, was born in Goldfield, Iowa, on August 21, 1923. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Goldfield High school in 1940 and A.I B. in 1942. Gloria married George Nelson on April 24, 1943 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1944. On March 18, 1951, Gloria married Merle Harvey at Goldfield. The couple made their home in Goldfield where Gloria worked for the Goldfield Telephone Company for 27 years, retiring in 1983. Gloria was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, serving as the church organist for 59 years. She also was a member of the United Presbyterian Women, Emma Henry Circle, Bayview Study Club and Oakridge Recreation.

Gloria passed away at her home on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at the age of 84 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Merle Harvey of Goldfield; sons, Dave Harvey and wife Karen of Alpharetta, GA and Jim Harvey of Goldfield; six grandchildren, Jodi Smith of Greenville, SC, Jeremy Harvey and wife Nicole of Cumming, GA, Jeff Harvey of Cumming, GA, Tim Harvey of Pleasant Hill, IA, Melissa Phinney and husband Josh of Rogers, AR and Jason Harvey of Goldfield, IA and great-granddaughter, Grace Harvey of Cumming, GA.

Memorial services will be held Friday, August 8, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Dr. Arlo Reichter officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
