Joy Jones, 76, of Elk River, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Guardian Angels Care Center. She was born in Kanawha, Iowa, to Leonard and Tillie (Tesdahl) Evans on July 31, 1924. She attended Kanawha public schools and the American Institute of Business school in Des Moines, Iowa. She and Robert E. Jones were married Sept. 10, 1949, in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Jones was employed at banks in Iowa, Illinois Washington and Anoka, as well as First National Bank of Elk River for 10 years. She also was the office manager of Elk River Electrical Utilities. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Elk River, Global Health Ministries and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Mrs. Jones enjoyed bridge, sewing, and volunteering in many local community projects. Some of them included Meals-on-Wheels, March of Dimes, WIC, American Cancer Society, Cub Scout troop leader, and a Medicare counselor for the state. She also was mother and guiding influence in son, Mark joining the Wycliffe Bible Translator, Ghana, West Africa, Ntrubo Project, providing the New Testament to the people in their native language, plus building a village clinic and school plus digging five water wells. The project was financed by people and organizations in Elk River.

Her funeral service was July 21 at Central Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. Donna Rohrer. Interment was in Orono Cemetery, with Rickie Buttweiler, Linda Hammer, Joanne Holme, Marilyn Schroeder, Kitty Schumacher, Joanne Tacheny, Roberta Takle and Betty Zehringer serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; daughters, Cindy (David) Commens and Sue (Kevin) Ladwig; 10 grandchildren; and sisters, Avonne Larson and Lolis Street. She was preceded in death by son, Mark; and sister, Patricia. Memorials are preferred to the Joy Jones World Missions Fund.
