Eugene "Gene" Frederick Nicholson, 93, a former resident of Clarion, died on Monday, March 17, 2008, at his home in Wake Forest, North Carolina. A memorial service was held on Friday, March 21, at the Church Our Hope Presbyterian Church, Wake Forest, North Carolina. Rev. Scott Cook and Rev. Chris Bower officiated at the 10:00 a.m. service.

Eugene "Gene" Nicholson, was born June 11, 1914 in Little Cedar, Iowa, the only child of the late Mary Cross Nicholson and Fred Nicholson. Gene graduated from the Little Cedar High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II in General Patton's 3rd Army as a motor pool mechanic. He married Rachel Gambell, who preceded him in death in 1968. He was employed as an auto mechanic, appliance repairman and a foreman designing lampshades and also in later years as a custodian. In 1972, he married Doris Spitler. He lived 91 years in the State of Iowa, in Forest City, Clear Lake, Clarion and Grinnell, before moving to Wake Forest, North Carolina in 2005. He was a much loved and well respected member of Christ Our Hope PCA Church in Wake Forest.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Nicholson; two sons, Gary Nicholson of Buckeye, Arizona and Greg Nicholson of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Gail Wallace of LaVerne, Tennessee and Gloria Miner and husband, Ken of Grinnell; two step-daughters, Liana Anderson and husband, C. Michael of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Mary Locke and husband, Rodney of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law; great-granddaughter; step-grandson; and two step-great-grandsons.
