Pearl Ruth Klay
Pearl Ruth was the daughter of Harko and Jennie (Holleman) De Boer. She was raised at Platte, until the age of eleven, when she moved to Hollandale, Minnesota, where she graduated from the eighth grade. On January 12, 1950 she married Percy G. Roskamp in Titonka. The resided near Belmond and later moved to Clarion. Percy passed away on September 2, 1964, in Belmond. She then moved to Kanawha with her five children. On July 25, 1966, she married Herman Vander Ploeg in Kanawha. They made their home in Hull. Herman passed away on December 17, 1976, in Hull. On May 16, 1987, she married Roger E. Klay in Hull. They continued to live in Hull. Roger passed away on January 1, 2003, in Hull.
Mrs. Klay was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and attended the Coffee Break Bible Study. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and being with her families, spending time with her children and great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and also a certified nurses' aid at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull for fifteen years.
Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia, and her husband, Harlan Moss, of New Bern, North Carolina; and Paula Huston, of Des Moines; three sons, Philip Roskamp, and his wife, Dawn, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Palmer Roskamp, of Alton; and Preston Roskamp, of New Braunfels, Texas; six step-children, Cathryn, and her husband, Corwin Schaaf, of Spring Lake, Michigan; Bruce Vander Ploeg, and his wife, Sally, of Prescott Valley, Arizona; T.J. Klay, and his wife, Eloise, of Nashville, Tennessee; Mary, and her husband, Roland Van Zee, of Monroe; and Nancy, and her husband, David Van Holland, of Sioux Center; twelve grandchildren, seventeen step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Marie Tillema, of De Motte, Indiana; Louise Boverhuis, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Esther Workman, of Falmouth, Michigan; Jennie Loverink, of Hollandale; and Evelyn Christians and Viola Eekhoff, both of Kanawha; two brothers and their wives, Wendell and Tena De Boer, of Hollandale; and Paul and Kathy De Boer, of Albert Lea; two sisters-in-law, Alice and Lena De Boer, both of Hollandale; two brothers-in-law, William Bos, of Albert Lea; and Bert Coeling, of Kanawha; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, three sisters, and three brothers.
Memorials will be directed to the Gideons and to Hospice.
