Wiert Johnson passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert Brower, eight miles south of Kanawha, Monday evening, April 15. Mr. Johnson was well known in Kanawha, having lived there for a number of years following his retirement from active farm work. In 1925 he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered and during the last years of his life he has been unable to be out of his house. Wiert Johnson was born August 25, 1857, in the Netherlands. He came to America in 1882 and his first place of residence was in Hardin county, Iowa. Ten years later, in 1892, he with his family came to Wright county and most of the remainder of his life was spent there. In 1921, after many years of active farm work, Mr. Johnson retired and moved to Kanawha where he, with his wife, resided until his condition, following the stroke, made it advisable for them to give up their home here and live with their children. On July 25, 1875, he was united in marriage with Stientje Abbas, who preceded him in death last September. To this union nine children were born, four of whom have preceded him in death. The children who survive are: George, and Mrs. Bert Brower, of Kanawha; John and Wiert, of Clarion, and Mrs. P. H. Eekhoff, of Reading, Minn. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of the Wright Christian Reformed church and was for ten years an elder of the church. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the Brower home and at 1:30 o'clock at the Wright Christian Reformed church, with the Rev. J. M. Voortman in charge. Interment was at the Wright Christian Reformed church cemetery.
