Cecil L. Blank, 81, Bemidji, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1992, in North County Regional Hospital, Bemidji. Cecil L. Blank was born Jan. 28, 1911, in Britt, Iowa, the son of John and Cora Britt. He married Marie L. Krambeer on April 6, 1933, in Wells, Minn. After their marriage, they lived in Kanawha, Iowa, where they raised sugar beets. They moved in 1943 to Richmond, Calif., where he worked first as a painter and then for the U.S. Coast Guard in the Richmond shipyards. In 1944, they moved to the Carr Lake area, and in 1982 to Baker Parks Apartments. He worked in the Kenfield Box Factory, Bemidji, from 1944 to 1962. He worked for Tom Evenson from 1965 to 1968 in the Effie area cutting pulpwood. In 1949, he invented the "49er" fishing lure, which he manufactured in his home until the early 1960s.

Survivors are his wife, sons, Merle, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Joe, Red Wing, Minn., and Robert, Virginia, Minn.; daughters, Arlene (Mrs. Arnold) Tangborn, Guthrie, Minn., Esther (Mrs. Adrian) Vorderbruggen, Brookston, Minn., and Evelyn Blank, Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul, Nashville, Ark., and J.E. "Cap," Goodell, Iowa; and sister, E. June Nieman, Kanawha. He was preceded in death by brothers, Irvin and Alvin; sister, Dorothy; and grandsons, Steven Blank, Timothy, Randal and Daniel Vorderbruggen.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Visitation: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, in the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
