LAWRENCE, Kansas - Verna Kahn, 79, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. She was born Oct. 21, 1921 in Kanawha, Iowa to Frederick and Cora Augusta (Wagoner) Cook. She moved to Garnett at 8 years and attended school, graduating from Garnett High School, then moving to Kansas City. In 1948 she moved to Lawrence and lived in the Lawrence Tonganoxie area the rest of her life.

She married Edward Alfred Kahn on Aug., 24, 1948 in Olathe. He preceded her in death July 14, 1984. She is survived by, two sons, James Kahn, San Jose, Calif., and Alfred Kahn, Tonganoxie; a brother George Cook, Park River, N.D.; a sister, Peggy Roberts, Ottawa, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Donald James Cook.

She will lie in state noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Family will receive friends 7 - 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Reno Cemetery.
