Final Rites for Minnie Johnson

Minnie S. Johnson, 96, Gowrie, died Wednesday, October 25 at the Greene County Medical Center Long-Term Care Unit, Jefferson. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 28 at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie, with the Rev. Harris Hostager officiating. Burial was in the Gowrie Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darrell Ziemer, Kenton Wiklander, Dick Hubbard, Robert Breeden, Darrel Mischke and Bob Pirie.

Survivors include sons, Harris, Jefferson, and Arnold, Ames; daughters, Delores Piltingsrud, Callender, and Evalou Rankin, Riverside, California; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maurine Elg, Fort Dodge.

Minnie Carlson was born near Lanyon, where she attended country schools. She worked as a seamstress in Des Moines. In 1916, she married Joe Johnson and they farmed south of Gowrie. They farmed in the Laurens, Goldfield, Lundgren, and Gowrie areas. He died in 1948. In 1961, she moved into Gowrie, where she provided child care. She moved to the Greene County Medical Center Long-Term Care Unit in 1984. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Gowrie.
