BELMOND- Roger J. Kinseth, age 76, of Belmond, a former partner in Kinseth's Plumbing & Heating, Inc., Belmond, passed away of a massive stroke on Tuesday (April 15, 2008) at the Belmond Medical Center. Visitation will be Sunday, April 20, from 1 until 4 p.m., at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E., Belmond. A time of sharing memories and reflections will follow the visitation at the funeral home and then interment will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.
Roger Joe Kinseth, the son of Bernold and Neva (Oler) Kinseth, was born on January 12, 1932, on the family farm in rural Alexander. He lived on the farm until the family moved into Belmond. Roger attended Belmond High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. During high school he excelled at the sport of basketball. Following high school he went on to attend Luther College in Decorah.
In 1949, Roger was united in marriage to Janyce Larson at the Catholic Church Rectory. The couple's union was blessed with five children; Julie, Jane, Jeff, Jill, and Jody. Roger was a partner in Kinseth's Plumbing & Heating, Inc., along with his two brothers, Larry and Roland, and Roy Cummings. He was employed in the company following high school beginning in 1949 and shared in its ownership from 1966 until 1989, when he sold his share of the business concluding more than 40 years in the plumbing and heating profession. Roger was very fond of the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. For 57 years he had made annual fishing trips with both friends and family to the Williams Narrows Resort in Deer River, Minn. His family reflects back on all-day fishing excursions with Roger, afternoon shore lunches and then evenings filled with friendly, yet very competitive games of cards. Roger was a very competitive man, whether it was around the card table, on the lanes at the bowling alley, or on the links of a golf course. He was very proficient at all of these activities and had received various awards and recognitions for his achievements. He had rolled a 300 game, 738 series, and had won the Wright County High School Individual Bowling title in his high school days. Roger enjoyed times spent with young people, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to daily conversations with friends at the local coffee clutches and restaurants. He also looked forward to watching the Masters golf tournaments. Those who knew Roger will remember his unique sense of humor and his infamous one-liners.
Roger is survived by his four daughters and one son; Julie (Earl) Kalkwarf, and Jane (Randy) Turner of Belmond, Jeff (Dixie) Kinseth of Cedar Rapids, Jill (Tracy) Bedell of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Jody (Tim) Carlson, Urbandale; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dr. Steve) Tenold, Dr. Dan (Lyndi) Gabrielson, Amy (Casey) Clabaugh, Travis Turner, Angela (Justin) Dehmer, Benjamin, Brea, and Brooke Bedell, Molly and Cal Carlson; step-grandchildren, Mike (Amy) Icenbice, Jessica (Travis) Roma, and Andy Kalkwarf; many great grandchildren, and two brothers, Roland (Marge) Kinseth and Larry (Shari) Kinseth of Belmond, ; sister-in-law Cyrena Kinseth of Decorah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth; three sisters, Ardith Buchanan, Avon Armour, and Maxine Door; one sister-in-law, Marian Kinseth; and three brothers-in-law, Ronald Armour, Gordon Buchanan, and Paul Dorr.
