Ruth Marie Thomas, the daughter of Rutherford and Marie (Hovland) Conaway, was born February 1, 1924 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating with the class of 1943. Ruth was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Eagle Grove. On July, 17, 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Kelsey Fred Thomas in Geneva, Illinois. In 1968 the Thomas’ moved to Eagle Grove where they operated a restaurant business.
Ruth passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 84 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Ronald Thomas; grandson, Paul Thomas; and a brother, Donald (Duke) Conaway. Survivors include her daughter in law, Gail Thomas; daughter, Patricia Fitchhorn (Sam) of Eagle Grove; son, Tim Thomas of Belle Plaine, IA; daughter, Renee Willard (Dave) of Eagle Grove; grandchildren, Ronald Jr., Sherry, Mickey and Jeff Thomas of Aurora, Ill, Kathy Jo Hitchcock of Grand Rapids, MI, Misty Pickering (Chad) of Eagle Grove, Kelsey Marie Thomas of Iowa City , Randi Marie Willard of Cedar Falls and Caitlin Madelle Willard of Eagle Grove; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Lenora Underwood (Everett) of Lehigh; Phyllis Rengsdorf of Porterville, CA, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove at 11:00 a.m. with Ministry Assistant Marilyn Jorgensen officiating. Visitation is Sunday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
