THORNTON — Glenn Barz, 72, of Thornton, died Sunday (Aug. 28, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City of lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton with Pastor Rose Calderon-Kahn of the Thornton United Methodist Church presiding. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Retz-Grarup Funeral Home in Thornton.

Glenn Barz was born the son of Earnest and Violet (McAllaster) Barz on March 1, 1933, at Dows. He graduated from Dows High School. Glenn was united in marriage to Janice Jacobsen on Nov. 14, 1956. They made their home in Thornton.
Glenn was a self-employed carpenter for many years. After retiring he worked part-time at the co-op in Thornton. He was in the Army during the Korean War. Glenn and Janice loved going to basketball and softball games. Glenn also loved taking fishing trips to Canada with his son, Randy.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Janice Barz, of Thornton; son, Danny (Mona) Barz, of Center Point; son: Randy (Wendy) Barz, of Clear Lake; sister: LaVonne State, of Dows; sister-in-law: Kathleen (Jim) McMillen, of Janesboro, Ga.; step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Violet Barz; and his mother and father-in-law: Chris and Ruth Jacobsen. Retz-Grarup Funeral Home.
