Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazetteDOWS — Marie Emily Bryan, 88, died Wednesday (May 6, 1998) at the Dows Health Care Center where she had resided since June 24, 1995. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Dows with the Rev. James R. Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elledge Funeral Home in Dows.
Marie Emily Bryan was born March 28, 1910, on a farm near Dows, to William and Harriet (Fuller) Leach. Marie attended rural Dows schools and graduated from Dows High School in 1927. She received her normal teaching certificate from Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls and taught in rural schools in Wright and Franklin counties for eight years. On May 27, 1936, she was united in marriage to Glen W. Bryan at Mason City. After their marriage, they farmed in the Dows and Williams area for 50 years, retiring in 1964, and in 1987, they moved to Dows.Her husband died on Dec. 13, 1988. She was a member of Dows United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle, Senior Citizens and the Blaine Friendship Club.
Marie is survived by one step-daughter, VaDonna Pell, of Brazil, Ind.; one step-daughter-in-law, Lois Bryan, of Garner; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister and one step-son, Harold Bryan.
