DOWS — Ila Bessman, 74, of rural Dows, died Sunday (July 12, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Popejoy, with the Rev. Paul Smith of the United Methodist Church, Geneva, officiating. Burial will be at the Northlawn Memorial Gardens, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with the family receiving friends between 6 and 8 p.m.

Ila Jean Babcock was born May 25, 1924 at Racine. [Buckeye township, Hardin County, Iowa] Survivors include her husband, Harry R. Bessman, of rural Dows; five sons, Edgar G. Allen, of Palmer Lake, Colo., Terry J. Allen, of Palmer Lake, Colo., Wylie L. Allen, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bill D. Allen, of Ackley, and Ilo "Jon" Allen, of Hornick; one daughter, Twyla Crawford, of Kamrar; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace I. Couvelha, of Marysville, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband [Willard L. Allen], one sister, and three brothers.
