BELMOND - Freda Gladys Cramer, 94, died Sunday (April 11, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Tenold Funeral Chapel, Belmond, with the Rev. Celestyne DeVance, pastor of United Methodist Church, Belmond, officiating. Interment will be in Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home and will resume one hour prior to the service time Wednesday.

Freda Gladys Cramer, the daughter of Charles and Pauline (Krestopherson) Cramer, was born on Oct. 15, 1904, in Dows. She attended school in Dows until 1914, when the family moved to Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1926. After graduation Freda worked in the telephone office as a night switchboard operator. She stayed there until dial telephones became popular. Freda then began working for R. B. Thompson as a receptionist and telephone operator. She worked there 15 years, and retired in 1968. In 1982 she moved into the Belmond Community Apartments, and in August of 1986 she entered the Belmond Health Care Center. Freda loved to crochet a number of things, especially tablecloths. She planted flowers wherever she could-often they were mixed in with her tomatoes-and she loved cats. Freda was also an excellent cookie baker.

Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Cramer of Belmond and Anna Griese of Austin, Minn.; a brother, W.A. "Soupy" Cramer and his wife, Marion, of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Mabel, Nellie and Pearl, in infancy.
