GARNER - Erma D. Neal, 86, of Garner died Saturday (Dec. 15, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Interment will be in the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at Cataldo Funeral Home, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Erma Neal Memorial Fund.

Erma Dora Neal, the daughter of Lewis and Dora (Larsen) Bell, was born May 14, 1915, at Alexander. She attended school in Alexander and graduated from Alexander High School. On Feb. 19, 1935, she was married to Glen George Neal at Ft. Dodge. They farmed for the first seven years of their marriage in the Alexander, Dows, Mason City and Manly area until moving to Ackley where they owned and operated a hotel. Later, they owned and operated the sale barn in Dows and in 1957 moved to Garner where they owned and operated Glen's Auto Sales until retiring in 1978. Erma helped her husband, Glen, as a bookkeeper in the various businesses they were involved in over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, baking and playing the organ and piano. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner, UMW, Rebekah Circle, Homemakers Club and the Kensington Club of Dows.

Erma is survived by her husband, Glen G. Neal of Garner; two children, Larry Neal and his wife, Elaine, of Garner, and Joann Stuck and her husband, Bill, of Dows; four grandchildren, Brenda (Stuck) Wyer and her husband, Larry, of Lumberton, Texas, Bill L. Stuck and his wife, Lisa, of Dows, Mark Neal of Clear Lake, and Lori (Neal) Hart and her husband, Tom, of Cedar Falls; four great-grandchildren, Amber Neal, Alex and Darby Hart and Billy Stuck; a brother, Eldon Bell and his wife, Laverne, of Thornton; four sisters, Inez Ginapp of Belmond, Alma Pals of Alexander, Dorothy Poland and her husband, Cliff, of Rockwell, and Lavonne Card and her husband, Dallas, of Alexander; a brother-in-law, Maurice Neal and his wife, Ruth, of Pioneer, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Erma was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law, Willie Pals and Kenet Ginapp; and a nephew, Duane Card.
