THOMPSON — Mae Dietz, 86, of Thompson, died Sunday (July 10, 2005) in Lake Mills, at her grandson Brian's home, celebrating her great-grandson Joseph's baptism. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with the Rev. Mark Decker officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Young-At-Heart Club in Thompson.

Mae (Hanson) Dietz was born July 15, 1918, near Rochester, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Emma (Johnson) Hanson. She was baptized at home and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Kasson, Minn. Mae received her education at Byron, Minn., graduating with the Class of 1936. On May 17, 1941, Mae was united in marriage with Harry "Jack" Dietz. They farmed near the Dows, Waterloo and Britt areas.

In 1953, Jack and Mae purchased their own farm south of Thompson, and in 1976, they retired to their home in Thompson. Jack passed away on June 2, 1978. Mae was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she was active with the E.L.C.W. and Sarah Circle. She was also a member of the Young-At-Heart and Queens Card Club.

Survivors include her two daughters, Harriet Young and her husband, Bill, of Lake Mills, and Bonnie Bakken and her husband, Gerald, of Northwood; five grandchildren, Julie Cooney and her husband, Bill, Jeff Bakken and his wife, Melody, Dawn Madson and her husband, Leslie, Jennifer Haugebak and her husband, Tim, and Brian Young and his wife, Tracy; 10 great-grandchildren, Olivia Madson, Joseph Young, Morgan Young, Kyle Hejna, Morgan Hejna, Jakeb Bakken, Jaclyn Bakken, Jayson Bakken, Tyler Haugebak, and Garet Haugebak; two sisters-in-law, Grayce Thompson, of Iowa Falls, and Louise Hanson of Rochester, Minn.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard in 1998; great-granddaughter, Hillary Madson; and a brother, Clifford Hanson. Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills is in charge of arrangements.
