GREENE - Evelyn Rover,74, of 110 South High Street, Greene, died Thursday (March 21, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Her funeral will be 2 p.m. today at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar, rural Greene, with the Rev. Mark Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today until time of service at the church.

Evelyn Barz was born Jan. 1, 1928, near Dows, Franklin County, a daughter of Carl and Iloe (Pepper) Barz. She received her education in the Hansell Public schools and was united in marriage to Harold Hurd on April 25, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. They farmed in the Clarksville area until the marriage ended in 1964. Evelyn then made her home in Shell Rock, where she was employed as head cook at Carvers Restaurant. Evelyn met Lester Rover on Feb. 26, 1972, and was married on Aug. 17, 1972, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Clarksville. They farmed in the rural Greene area until their retirement in 1986. Evelyn took an active part in the farming operation and during the harvest drove the truck. They moved into the Valley View Apartments in Greene in February 2002.

Her interests included cooking, gardening and being an avid reader. She is survived by her husband, Lester, of Greene; two daughters and their spouses, Judy and Donald Rogers of Kansas City, Kan., Shirley and Larry Frey of Hampton; six sons and their spouses, Steve Hurd of Olathe, Kas., Dan and Denise Hurd of Houston, Tex., Henry and Lois Rover of Nora Springs, Marvin and Mary Rover of Norfolk, Neb., James and Marjorie Rover, of Shell Rock, and Paul and Carolyn Rover of Greene; 14 grandchildren, Kathy and Greg Dujakovich, Ramona and Deric Hawks, Joseph Zwosta, Laura Reents, Jason Hurd, Jeremy Hurd, Nick Hurd, Amanda Maple, John and Shelly Rover, Judy Rover, Michael Rover, Jennifer and Brad Greiner, William Rover, Andrea and Brian McBurney; seven great grandchildren; Nikole Dujakovich, Zachary Dujakovich, Dylan Reents, Ryan Hurd, Alexandria Rover, Andrew Rover and Jenna Rover; one brother, Gordon and his wife, Pat Barz, of Straighten, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Leo Barz.
