ANKENY - Dale E. Hartzell, 78, of 115 S.E. Third St. in Ankeny, died Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2002) at Mercy Hospice in Johnston of myelo fibrosis. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ankeny Funeral Home in Ankeny.

Dale was born in Algona, Iowa. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He had spent the last 21 years in Ankeny. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and a past master. He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion, a volunteer fireman and a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He retired in 1991 from the Des Moines Area Community College, where he worked as a custodial supervisor. Dale enjoyed sporting events, family activities and was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathrine Hartzell Grandgeorge, of Ankeny, and Julie Hartzell Birdsall, of Windsor, Colo.; son, Jeffrey L. Hartzell, of Ankeny; four grandchildren, and a sister, Grace Hartzell, of Garner. Memorial contributions may be given to the Dale Hartzell Memorial Fund. Ankeny Funeral Home
