Stanley Melbourne Burras, the son of Carl and Berthilde (Anderson) Burras, was born June 6, 1921, at his home in Clarion, Iowa. He was baptized in the St. John Lutheran Church on July 10, 1921. Stanley graduated from Kanawha High School in 1940. After graduation, Stanley served in the United States Coast Guard, from December 19, 1941 until October 11, 1945. He served as a gunners mate in the state of Alaska, a state which he came to love in spite of the cold! On November 23, 1946, Stanley was united in marriage with Laura Marie Voight. The couple made their home in Chicago, Webster City, and returned to Eagle Grove in 1953. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2002.

Stanley was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, served as an usher and raised his family in the Christian faith. Though a quiet, solitary man, he stood firm in his faith and was loved by all. Stanley was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 304 and he enjoyed reading and fishing.

Stan passed away Friday, February 8, 2008, with his loving family around him, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; brother, Irving; sister, Arlene; son-in-law, Gene Thompson and a great grandchild, Steven. Survivors include his children: Sandra Thomason and her husband George, Judi Thompson and Carl Burras all of Eagle Grove; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandsons; brothers: Ray and wife Marjorie of Kanawha; Carroll and wife Edith of Kanawha and Roger and wife Dorothy of Boone and sisters: Cora Spangler of Eagle Grove, Verna Headrick of Brandon, SD and Opal Neese of Clearfield.
