EAGLE GROVE — Gladys Paulson, the daughter of Ole and Serina (Olson) Paulson, was born February 19, 1909, in Dakota City, Iowa. She attended Rutland Schools until 10th grade, and rode the train to Eagle Grove for 11th and 12th grades, graduating in 1924. Gladys taught in country schools for six years north of Rutland before college. For 9 years, she would teach 9 months of the year and attended college the other 3 months at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, earning her B.A. in teaching and a certificate to also teach special education, slow students, and accelerated learners. She taught in Eagle Grove after earning her degree. She retired at age 65, due to Iowa State Law. Gladys was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. She enjoyed cross stitching and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Gladys died Friday, February 8, 2008, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 98 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Helen Simpkins and her son Dale, Selma Paulson, Oleda Entler, Edwin Paulson, Pearl Fries and Jack Paulson. Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Jack Paulson of Wichita, KS, Jerry Paulson of Gilmore City, John Paulson of Gilmore City, Paul Fries and wife Janet of Kintnersville, PA, Don Fries and wife Deborah of Michigan, Joel Fries and wife Barbara of Michigan, Jacque Nielsen and husband, Arliss of Woolstock and Barbara Giese and friend Ron Harris of Spirit Lake and several great nieces and nephews. Gladys always made her home welcome to family and friends.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
