Dean Arthur Helgevold, the son of Leonard and Bernice (Sorensen) Helgevold, was born January 16, 1938, in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1956. He also attended the Iowa Military Academy. Dean served in the Iowa Army National Guard, 1st Lieutenant, from October 31, 1955 until October 30, 1958.

Dean married Jane Kirchhof in 1958 in Thor, Iowa, the couple had two sons, Kevin and Keith. On June 26, 1965, Dean was united in marriage with Mary J. Manley, at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove, and they had two sons, Duane and Dale. Mary preceded him in death on June 28, 1982.

Dean was a truck driver for Umthun Trucking and ADS of Eagle Grove. Dean was a member of the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove and the Methodist Church in Redfield. He belonged to numerous Masonic Lodge affiliations including Perry, Renwick and Bower Lodge #464, Eagle Grove. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Dean passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 70 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Dean is survived by his children: Kevin Helgevold and wife Linda of Irvine, CA and Keith Helgevold of Orange, CA, Duane Helgevold and wife Jennifer of Council Bluffs, Dale Helgevold and wife Lori of Osceola; grandchildren: Megan and Sam Helgevold of Irvine, CA, Nicole Helgevold of Carroll, Jarrett and Brian Helgevold of Council Bluffs and Damon, LeeAnn, and Landi Helgevold of Osceola and sister Doris Soderstrum and husband Weldon of Adel.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 14, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove with Pastor Kenneth Reiter officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the Bower Lodge in Eagle Grove or the discretion of the family.
