Pauline E. (Vodden) Oppman, 54, an employee at J.L. Hammett in Braintree, Massachusetts for eight years and a homemaker, died Monday in North Iowa Mercy Health Care Center in Mason City, Iowa, after injuries sustained in a car crash near Mason City. She recently moved to Belmond, Iowa, after living in East Bridgewater for most of her life.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Oppman attended Boston-area schools. After raising her eight children, she and her husband Richard moved between East Bridgewater and Mason City for the past several years until settling in Belmond. Mrs. Oppman also had been a teaching assistant at a preschool in Mason City.

In addition to her husband she leaves three daughters, Cynthia Mahmesmith of East Bridgewater, Kim Marie Gobeli of Belmond and Mary Schuver of Belmond; five sons, Richard Jr. of Belmond; Frank, Ray and Patrick of Mason City and George of Rockland; her father, William Vodden; six brothers, Stanley, Francis, William, Robert, John and John Waters; six sisters, Lorraine Noone, Barbara Brown, Beverly Sarro, Marion Vodden, Patricia Clark and Gail Zarrella; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was said Friday in St. Francis Xavier Church in Belmond. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, also in Belmond.
