Eagle Grove Services Today for Mary Friday

Funeral services for Mary Friday, 70, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Eagle Grove, Iowa. Miss Friday died of pneumonia Sunday at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove.

Miss Friday worked for 33 years as a civil servant in Washington, D.C.. She was a Foreign Service reserve officer for the U.S. State Department. She retired in 1974 and moved from Arlington, Va., to Ida Grove.

Survivors include a sister, Marcelean Blue of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Emory Friday of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

MARY OLLIE FRIDAY
Mary Ollie Friday, daughter of George and Marie Boje Friday, was born on the family farm 5 miles southwest of Eagle Grove, Iowa on May 2, 1915. She died at the Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, on July 14, 1985, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was baptized into Christ on June 20, 1915 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vincent, Iowa, and confessed her christian faith by confirmation at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

She attended grade school in Troy Township and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1933. After attending the University of Northern Iowa, she taught rural school in Webster County near Lehigh, Iowa. In 1941 she accepted civil service employment in Washington, D.C. She was first employed as secretary to the special assistant to the Secretary of Agriculture. After five years, she transferred to the U.S. Dept. of State as conference personnel officer, and later was with the Foreign Service Branch of the State Department. She retired in 1974, after 33 years of government service. She moved to Ida Grove in October, 1975.

As a youngster, she was active in Webster County 4-H and her accomplishments would be hard to equal today. She was awarded two trips to the International Livestock Show in Chicago, Ill. She also received a state sewing award. She took great pride in her garden and flower hobbies. She was an active member of the Ida Grove Federated Women's Club and the Ida County task force on aging.

She is survived by one sister, Marcelean Blue of Kansas City, Kan., and one brother, Emory G. Friday of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, a brother Harold, and sister, Leona.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning, July 18, from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
