MACOMB, IL - Edgar G. Nelson, 71, of 714 S. Johnson died at 11:44 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at McDonough District Hospital. Born Dec. 27, 1930, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Frank and May Mosley Nelson, he married Janet E. Robb on April 10, 1953, in Mason City, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Don (and Candy Clark) Nelson of Colchester, Tony (and Brenda) of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Marty of Green Forest, Ark.; one brother, Clifford (and Lucille) of Eagle Grove, Iowa; three sisters, Margaret Louberto of Des Moines, Iowa, Vesta Mac Anderson of Corwith, Iowa, and Mary Schaeffer of Eagle Grove; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

He was a Korean War Army veteran. He was a graduate of Eagle Grove High School, where he was the Iowa State Wrestling Champion for three consecutive years, undefeated during that time. In 1977, he was inducted into the Iowa Hall of Fame for his wrestling accomplishments. He worked as a supervisor for the Continental Can Co. in Peoria, Minnesota, Ohio and Milton, Penn, retiring in 1988.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Mehaffy will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded. Private burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
