DARLINGTON, WI - Otto Chellevold, age 86, of Darlington, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. He was born on Oct. 15, 1917, in Ferryville, Wis., the son of Ole and Dorthea (Tangedahl) Chellevold. Otto graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1939. On Sept. 21, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mildred G. Hoffland at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Otto lived and farmed with his parents in Ferryville until his graduation. After his marriage he farmed on the family farm until moving to Darlington, in 1952. Otto then became an insurance agent for Rural Mutual Insurance Company, Lafayette Farmco, and later for M & M Livestock Company out of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Otto retired in 1983. Otto was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington, and a past member of its church council. He also served in the Army during World War II. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Redbirds, Badgers and Packers. Otto was very close to his sons and grandchildren and loved watching them play ball. Otto also enjoyed traveling with Millie in their RV. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Millie, at home; three sons, David (Sheri) Chellevold of Darlington, [G. Larry] (Karen) Chellevold of Tucson, Ariz., and Dean Chellevold of Verona; two brothers, Carl (Doris) Chellevold of Richland Center, and Ervin (Elizabeth) Chellevold of Darlington; two sisters, Marie Bedusek and Julia Larson, both of Milwaukee; eight grandchildren, Jody (Chris) Brummer, Julie ([Jeff Davis]) Berman, Amy (Mike) Hillenbrand, Chad ([Kim Jordan White]) Chellevold, Doug Chellevold, Jesse Chellevold, Paul (Sara) Chellevold and Stephanie Chellevold; four great-granddaughters, Emma and Mackenzie Berman and Lauren Hillenbrand, and Morgan Brummer. He was preceded in death by a son, Ron Chellevold in 2002; a grandson, Bradley Chellevold, in infancy; a great-granddaughter, Kailyn Brummer; five brothers, John, Herman, Norman, Marvin and Arthur Chellevold; and a sister, Dena Severson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Darlington, with the Rev. Todd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Utica Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Mount Sterling, Wis. A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the ERICKSON FUNERAL HOME in Darlington. A memorial fund has been established in Otto's name.
