ESCONDIDO, CA -- Dale M. McCoy, 89, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003. Born June 15, 1914, in Dows, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 26 years. He retired in 1956 as a Mustang naval officer for the U.S. Navy. He was a past grand chef de gare for the state of California 40 & 8. He was a past post commander for J.B. Clark Post 149 of the American Legion.

Mr. McCoy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mae McCoy of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Owen and Patricia McCoy of Escondido; stepson and daughter-in-law William and Pam Heinze of Milwaukie, Ore.; stepdaughter Karen Heinze of Escondido; sister LaVonn Lenze of Minnesota; grandchildren Michael, David and Sharisse; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, at the American Legion Post 149, 230 Park Ave. in Escondido. The family suggests donations to the Albert L. LaVague Nurses Scholarship Fund, c/o Carl Asher, 276 El Camino Real, Space 19, Oceanside, CA 92054 (for Palomar Voiture 1406). Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is handling arrangements.
