January 17, 2001CAMP PENDLETON ---- Rodney "Loy" Dunn III, 9, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, in Chino, California. Born April 8, 1991, in Bethesda, Md., he lived in Camp Pendleton for seven years. He attended school in Fallbrook, National City and Oceanside Unified at Stuart Mesa Elementary. He enjoyed family outings, bus rides, school, playing and being close to his twin brother.
Rodney "Loy" was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kent Whyte; and uncle Erik Whyte. He is survived by his mother and father, Katy and Staff Sergeant Rodney Dunn II of Camp Pendleton; twin brother Lukas K. Dunn of Camp Pendleton; grandparents Joanne Whyte of Goldfield, Iowa, Rod and Monorae Dunn of Clarkston, Mich., James and Janet Wiegert of Davisburg, Mich.; great-grandparents Hayword and Betty Dunn, Pat and Gay Tinson, Gerald and Pauline St. Souver, all of Michigan; great-uncle Bill and aunt Barbara of Fortuna, Calif.; great-aunts Marylyn Wilson of Goldfield, Iowa, and Teresa Weed of Waterford, Mich.; and many more aunts, uncles and cousins in California, Iowa and Michigan. A memorial service was held on January 5 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Fallbrook. A cremation service will take place in early summer in Goldfield, Iowa.
