Christopher Thomas Schalk, 47, Sarasota, FL died Dec. 22, 2007. Chris was the beloved son of Dr. Thomas G. and Fredrica A. Schalk and was born in Clarion, Iowa. Death was sudden and accidental, taking place in Sarasota, Fla., where he was living. He was a graduate of Loy Norrix High School, Kalamazoo, Mich., and University of Kentucky, Lexington, Ky., where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He relocated to Miami, Fla., in 1994, where he was the founder and president of the Firehouse Brewery. Currently a commercial real estate appraiser, he was most recently employed by Valu-Net Appraisals, Sarasota; where he handled raw commercial and multi-family land, office condo, medical office, retail, warehouse, industrial, manufacturing, sub-division development and waterfront condo conversion projects as well as area market research and analysis.

Survivors include his parents, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Sally Richards (Barry), nephews Thomas and Stephen and niece Anne Marie, all of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, Brad (Lynda), nephew Bradley, and niece Samantha of Sarasota. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service is planned, with interment to follow. Memorials preferred to Children's Home Society and Family Services, 1605 Eustis Street, St. Paul, MN 55108-1219.
