NORTHWOOD - Betty Marlene Beck, 68, of Northwood, died Wednesday (January 2, 2008) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Hogan-Bremer- Moore Colonial Chapel, 126-Third St. N.E. in Mason City with the Rev. Barbara Wills of First Lutheran Church in Northwood officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the chapel. The family of Betty Marlene Beck has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Betty Marlene Beck memorial fund and may be sent to Mrs. Debbie Alcorn, P.O. Box 157, Rudd, IA 50471.

Betty Marlene Beck was born on Sept. 7, 1939, in Belmond, the daughter of Peter Edward and Fannie (Decker) Steenblock. She attended school in Rockwell and worked as a nursing assistant for the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. Betty was baptized in the Lutheran Faith by Rev. Barbara Wills. Betty enjoyed playing the flute in the band in school, music and dancing, but her great love and enjoyment was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Virgil Beck of Northwood; her children: Virgil Beck Jr., of Northwood, Sherry Melver of New Hampton, and Debbie (Mike) Alcorn of Rudd; her grandchildren: Monica Melver, Mike Alcorn II, Megan Melver-Mahaffey, Whittney Melver-Mahaffey, Aron Beck, Travis Beck, Sierra Alcorn, and Shaina Alcorn; two special sisters who helped with her care, Mary Jean (Roger) Hinders of Belmond, and Joyce Austin of Garner; seven other living brothers and sisters, as well as many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren: Mandy Marie Alcorn and Jesse Waylon Beck-Mahaffey; and seven brothers, and one sister. Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel.
