Clara LaVonne Jury was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Dows. She was the only child born to Harrison E. and Jennie M. (Rosenthal) Satterlee. Clara excelled in her academics and was a member of the basketball team while in high school. She graduated from Dows High School in 1931. Clara became a purchasing agent for Century Engineering in Cedar Rapids during World War II. On June 2, 1934, Clara was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, John H. “Jack” Jury. She was employed for several years at the Farmer’s State Bank in Dows as a cashier. Clara became the bookkeeper for her husband when the two of them purchased their own business, Jury Garage in Rockford, where they specialized in servicing Ford automobiles. They sold the business in 1966. They lived for a short time in Arkansas and Oklahoma, eventually moving to a lake home in Clear Lake.

Clara and Jack treasured their time together. They favored being outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting in Canada and Minnesota. Some of Clara’s favorite leisure activities include her love for reading, especially “Reader’s Digests”, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and listening to big band and polka music. Her family claim her to have been a very private and organized lady.

Clara is survived by four cousins, Glenavon Loosemore of Spokane, Wash., Norma Brunner of Prairie City, Wayne Miller of Newton, and Wendell Miller of Runnells. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in January of 1985; and her parents, Harrison and Jennie. Fullerton Funeral Home and Cremation Services
