HAMPTON - Dick "Sassy" Perez, 80, of Hampton died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 4-8 p.m. at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Sassy was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Belmond to Jose and Inez Perez. He received his education in the Hampton schools and served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. In 1953, he was united in marriage to Beverly Hovenga in St. Paul, Minn. Sassy worked for Kreiner Bros. for 32 years and retired from Sorenson Motors, both businesses located in Hampton. Fishing, working on cars and mowers, tinkering in his workshop, and riding in parades in the jeep were highlights of his life. Sassy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and told many great stories that will be cherished.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Hampton; three sons, Delbert Perez and wife Sarah and David Perez and wife Amy, all of Hampton, and Gary; two brothers, Chris Perez and Tony Perez both of St. Paul; three sisters, Josaphine Zambrano and husband Abie, China Castillo, and Mercides Nava and husband Manual all of St. Paul; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dick and Danny; two brothers, Jim and Pete; and two sisters, Mary Lascon and Vicki Fuentes.
