July 3, 1924Minnie Maude Brooks, who was the daughter of Philander Caleb and Susan Marie Brooks, was born in Clarion, Wright County, Iowa, Dec. 8, 1877, and departed this life June 21, 1924, aged 46 years, 6 months and 13 days. She grew to womanhood in Arkansas City, Kansas and resided there until coming to Iowa, where she resided until her marriage to Charles William Kelley at Benton, Iowa, February 1, 1897.
There remains to mourn this loss a devoted husband, a foster son, Harley Harvey, a mother and father, of Kansas, five sisters, Mrs. Harry T. Cartwright, Decatur, Iowa; Mrs. R. A. Monroe, Oklahoma; Mrs. Pearl Bushmell, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. C. O. Martin, Fairview, Oklahoma; Mrs. G. B. Garrett, Colorado; two brothers, Earnest R., and Joe Caleb, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Sister Kelley was united with the Methodist Church at Grand River in May, 1917. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and very active in missionary work. Those who attended the funeral from afar were, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Louder and daughter, of Logan, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harland Riley, of Missouri Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goodman, of Shannon City; Mr. and Mrs. Drew Kelley and daughter, of Mt. Ayr; many other relatives and friends of the vicinity were also present.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Monday, Rev. Habliston, of Leon, officiating; burial at the Grand River Cemetery.
