EAGLE GROVE — Ernie Ferguson, 88, of Eagle Grove, died December 13, 2007 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Graveside memorial service will be held in Dell Rapids, SD in spring 2008. Services have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

William Ernest Ferguson, son of John and Helen Ferguson, was born in Trent, SD on January 5, 1919. He attended primary and high school in Trent. In December 1935 he married Florence Trevithick. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Anne Ferguson; daughter-in-law, Donna Ferguson; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Florence; son Thomas; two brothers and one sister.

Besides pride in his family, Ernie was especially proud of his contribution to the nation’s WWII effort. Before entering the US Navy he was employed by Lockheed Aircraft. There he worked on a secret project helping build the country’s first two jet air craft the XP80 and XP80A. After he retired form the US Department of Agriculture in 1983. He and Florence made their home in Mesa, AZ, until Florence preceded him in death in 2003. Subsequently he returned to Iowa and made his home at Rotary Ann Retirement in Eagle Grove.
