Fort Dodge MessengerServices celebrating the life of Esther E. Eittreim, age 87, of Sartell, Minn., and formerly of Eagle Grove, Iowa, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Esther died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 11 surrounded by her family in the memory unit at Country Manor Care Center in Sartell. Pastor Paul Stone will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Arrangements were with the Daniel Funeral Home in Sartell, Minn.
Esther was born on Oct. 22, 1920 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Ernest J. and LaVinnia (Abernathy) Morgan. She attended rural Iowa schools and graduated from Vernon Consolidated High School in 1938. She was a star on her high school basketball team, debate team, and Senior Class Secretary-Treasurer. On Jan. 10, 1941, she married Merle E. Eittreim in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They were married 57 years and spent all of their life together in rural Iowa. Esther was employed by Iowa Public Services in Eagle Grove. She loved to read, sew, travel and care for her flower gardens and spending time with her family and friends. In 1999, she moved to Country Manor apartments and spent the last four years in Pioneer Village.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Judith (William T.) Morgan of Sartell, son, David (Leota) Eittreim of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Dan) Joslin, Kristi (Michael) Malley and Teresa (Greg) Rueter, all of Sartell; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Emily Joslin, Spencer and Brady Malley and Abby and Clare Rueter; great-great-grandson, Jordan Daniel Fish; brothers-in-law, Stewart and Thomas; sister-in-law, Ilene; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Merle in Sept. 1998; sisters, Alta, Eunice and Jeannette; brothers, Marion, Floren and Curtis Morgan; sister-in-law, Lorene Sebber.
Special thanks to the Country Manor staff and to St. Cloud Hospital Hospice for their care and compassion, and the steadfast support of friends during Esther’s long journey with dementia.
