Robert Leonard Poland, 84, of Kewanee, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2006, at the Kewanee General Hospital, Kewanee, Illinois. Funeral services for Robert Poland will be 10:30 Thursday at the First Church of God, Iowa Falls, with Reverend Stephen Acheson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 TO 7:00pm Wednesday at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o his wife: Mildred Poland, 325 Hollis Avenue, Kewanee, Illinois, 61443. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert Leonard Poland was born December 27, 1921, in Royal Oak, Michigan, the son of Clarence Franklin and Ada Mae [Keller] Poland. He graduated from the Buckeye, Iowa Community Schools as valedictorian of the class of 1939. He graduated from Ellsworth College in 1941. On December 15, 1941, Robert was united in marriage to Mildred Kathryn Meyer at the Moody Bible Church by Reverend Harold Ironside. To this union four children were born: Robert, Beth, Karen, and Linda. During his lifetime, he had many careers: Farmer in Buckeye, Iowa; machinist in Dows, Iowa, engineer for John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa; owner of Poland Manufacturing in Iowa Falls, Iowa; design engineer for Kewanee Machinery and Conveyer; owner of Poland engineering, Kewanee, Illinois; engineer for International Harvester, Hinsdale, Illinois; and then retried due to illness from the Rock Island Arsenal at the age of 72. He missed work and wished to go back during his remaining years. He was a man of great integrity, a great sense of humor and quick wit, and was admired by many and loved beyond measure by his family.

Robert L. Poland is survived by his wife of 65 years: Mildred K. Poland of Kewanee, Illinois; his son: Robert Frederick Poland and wife Carolyn of University Place, Washington; his daughters: Beth Levaun Penn and husband Don of Normal, Illinois, Karen Ann DeConinck and husband Albert of Kewanee, Illinois, Linda Kay Buck and husband Time of Dunlap, Illinois; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Ada Poland; an infant daughter: Kathy Poland; and two grandchildren: Marybeth Kathryn Poland, and Ryon Ashley Poland.
