BROOKINGS - Ruth Olive (Sauer) Bliss, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at the Brookings Hospital. Ruth Sauer was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She attended school in Lac Qui Parle County, Minn. and graduated from high school at Gary. She attended a Christian preparatory school in California for a year, then attended normal school at Canby, Minn. She taught school in Districts 46 and 67 in Lac Qui Parle County from 1941 until 1944.

She married George Bliss Sept. 4, 1944, in Gary. The couple farmed in Yellow Medicine County and then farmed the Sauer homestead for 20 years. The couple moved to Brookings in 1965. While living there, she assisted her husband with his work with the Dairy Herd Improvement Association for which they were recognized for their outstanding service. She was a former member of First Baptist Church at Canby, Minn., and a member of Brookings Wesleyan Church, and was active in mission work.

Survivors include her husband, George a daughter, Brenda Peterson of Gillette, Wyo. a daughter-in-law, Karen Haggbloom of Sioux Falls and two grandchildren. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Brookings Wesleyan Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Eidsness Funeral Home and prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
