Former Resident Killed Saturday

The many friends of Mrs. Paul Mikelson, 25, were shocked when word was received here late Saturday night that she had been killed in a car-truck collision on U S 169 south of Ft. Dodge about 7:30 that night. Her husband has been, in the Lutheran hospital in Ft Dodge since the accident. His condition is critical. The men driving the truck were Donald Lauer, 34, and Norman Greenfield, 38, both of Ft. Dodge. They are also in the Lutheran hospital, but their condition is considered favorable. The Mikelsons were driving north, while the truck was southbound. According to Webster county officers, the Mikelson car apparently skidded on a patch of ice and swerved into the path of the approaching truck. The car was completely demolished. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mikelson were removed from the car with difficulty. She died of a basal skull fracture. Mikelson's injuries include fractures of the legs and shoulder, broken ribs, a head concussion and multiple cuts and bruises. The Mikelsons were enroute from Perry to Corwith to visit relatives. Greenfield and Laurer were on their way to Ogden to deliver a horse which they had in the truck. The horse was killed

Funeral services were held Wednesday for Mrs. Mikelson in Eagle Grove at the Methodist church at 2:00 p. m. Short service was held at the Brooks funeral home at Perry at 10 o'clock that morning. At the time of her death Mrs. Mikelson was teaching in a rural school near Perry. They had lived in Clarion a short time after their marriage. Then they moved to Perry.
