James Edgar Miller was born July 30, 1866, at Toronto, Ontario, Canada, one of a family of 10 children of James and Ann Hudson Miller. He came to the United States at the age of 9 years and became a naturalized citizen at 21. He was married Dec. 16, 1888, to Clara Elizabeth Beck at Fair Haven, Ill. To this union were born three daughters, Ina Mae, Iva Myrtle and Blanche Maree. Mr. Miller and his family moved to Iowa from Illinois in 1895 and settled in the vicinity of Alexander and later purchased a farm northwest of Rowan where they resided until 1922 at which time they moved to Clarion and spent the remainder of their life. Mr. Miller was a member of the Methodist church at Rowan and an active member cf the Odd Fellows for 25 years of which he served 16 years in the capacity of chaplain. He was also a member if the Rebekahs, Encampment and L.E.A.

Mr. Miller passed away at his home March 24, 1951, at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 24 days. He vas preceded in death by his wife, Clara Elizabeth and daughter, Iva Myrtle Gates and one great-grandson, Michael Billman; two sisters and five brothers. He is survived by his two daughters, Ina Mae Beindorff of Omaha, Neb., and Blanche Marie Thomas of Clarion; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. One sister, Mrs. Vettie Lee of Clear Lake and one brother, Doc Miller of Princeton, Ill., nieces, nephews and a host of many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 27, at the Rowan Methodist church, Rev. C. Wilbur Egeland officiating, assisted by Rev. V. V. Schuldt pastor of the Clarion Methodist church. Burial was in the Rowan cemetery. Pall bearers were Harland Hill, Glenn Doctor, Floyd Doctor, Harry Schmidt, Francis O'Neill and Glenn Farmer. Special music was furnished by Mrs. Minnie Pelley who sang "Beyond the Sunset," Howard Box, who sang "Out of the Ivory Palaces," and Edwin Rietz, who sang, "Good Morning and Goodnight." Mrs. Nina Heathershaw was the organist.

Out of town relatives and friends, who attended funeral services for Mr. Miller are as follows: Master Sergeant Bob Stumph and Mrs. Stumph of North Platte, Neb., Mrs. Ina Beindorff, Mrs. Garnette Cann and grandson, Richard Marchese, all of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Bessie Garfin, Mr. and Mrs. Leighton Hennigar and Danny, all of Mason City, Mrs. Nettie Lee, Ford and Frank Lee, all of Clear Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lee of Ventura Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Seifken and Judy of Rockwell, Doc Miller of Princeton, Ill., Mrs. Anna Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Vitus Feldman and Gary, all of Marshalltown, Dr. Creno Shiley and T. S. Shiley of Graettinger, Mr. and Mrs. Tom J. Lister and Evelyn, Mrs. Lawrence Griffith, all of Goldfield, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jacobs, Edgar Mantle all of Goodell, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Billman and Arlene of Cedar Falls, Floyd Doctor of Belmond, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Meyer of Blairsburg.
